I am so thankful my dad, Roy Bernard, was able to go on the Honor Flight with fellow Veterans on May 22, 2018. He passed away September 24, 2018. I am so proud of him for his service and thankful to all of our Veterans for their sacrifices for us. Thank you for helping him go on this Honor Flight, he had such a great time and we enjoyed hearing about it. This donation is in his honor so that another Veteran can experience this also. Thank you.Marti Anderson
Milton (Bud) Besch was a WWII Navy veteran who enlisted at age 16. Both his tall stature and having been birthed at home with no official birth certificate at that time helped him appear older. While he spoke little of his war time experience, he instilled in his children a love of county and the importance of being a good and brave citizen. All of his brothers and many of his children and grandchildren are veterans, both males and females. Bud worked many years in the airline industry. He supported many veteran organizations during his life. Bud was called to his heavenly home in 2014. On this fifth anniversary of our loving father’s passing, we are grateful to show our appreciation by supporting other veterans through Honor Flight.Your Eternally Grateful Family

My mother traveled to Washington, D.C. with her Guardian, Linda Buell, in the fall of 2016. The experience was a highlight of her life, a life full of highlights. Linda remained in close contact with her, visiting her often for chats and sometimes a meal, even though she worked and lived over an hour away when traffic cooperated and longer when it didn’t. Meeting retired General Wilma Vaught and getting a personal tour of the Women’s Memorial was especially meaningful as was the ceremony of placing a wreath on the tombs of the Unknown soldiers in Arlington National Cemetery. Thank you for conceiving of this program and congratulations for so successfully honoring the men and women who selflessly served our country. Cynthia, a WWII Army Nurse Corps veteran, died just short of her 99th birthday.Patty Biasca, daughter

My grandpa took his Honor Flight out of Chicago in September 2017. It was all he could talk about for months after, and I will never forget how his face lit up arriving back to Midway to his whole family waiting for him. He passed away six months after, and I am so grateful he was able to have that experience before he went. It was one of the highlights of his life. Thank you so much for all you do.Your Lindsey Lou

Grady, Jr., John Edward
My father, John Edward Grady Jr, died on February 26, 2010; my donation is in tribute to this remarkable person. Dad was born in Boston, MA, on June 15, 1935; he grew up in Milton, MA and graduated from Harvard College (1956). He immediately turned to serve his country in the United States Navy, serving as in the Combat Information Center as Electronics Officer in the Sixth (Mediterranean) and Second (Atlantic) Fleets. My father won commendation for performance of duty aboard ship, and that ship won the award for "Best Ship" in an eight-ship squadron; he held an honorable discharge upon completion of his service. After graduating from Harvard Business School in 1965, he was offered, in 1970, an Assistant Secretary in the President Richard Nixon administration; he purportedly declined only when he understood the position would take him from his children too much. My father was a man of courage, consistency, honor, and integrity -- and I miss him every day, still, horribly.India, Harlan, and Douglas A. Grady

Hasslinger, Jack Lyons
Jack Lyons Hasslinger was a faithful husband and devoted father, grandfather and great grandfather. He enjoyed playing golf and tennis, watching baseball, especially the Arizona Diamondbacks and being as intelligent as he was, watching Jeopardy and answering all the questions; he also found great joy singing baritone with his church choir. Jack joined the Army Air Corps in January 1943, during World War II and landed in Normandy; he proudly served his country and was honorably discharged in December 1945 at the rank of Corporal. In 1965, he met the love of his life, Beverly Mae Juhl in California at a Parents without Partners event and the two were married in January of 1966. In spring of 2018, Jack received the opportunity of going on the Honor Flight, which was a life changing experience for him. We are so grateful for that opportunity before his death, it meant so much to him.Your loving grandson, Michael Olsen

Sunset and evening star And one clear call for me! And may there be no moaning of the bar, When I put out to sea, But such a tide as moving seems asleep, Too full for sound and foam, When that which drew from out the boundless deep Turns again home. Twilight and evening bell, And after that the dark! And may there be no sadness of farewell, When I embark; For though from out our bourne of Time and Place The flood may bear me far, I hope to see my Pilot face to face When I have crossed the bar. Dear Harry, You will always be in our thoughts and will be remembered for many pleasant memories. For me, the two summers at Roosevelt University as an architect/documentor of the Auditorium Building Systems, working for the Historic American Engineering Record became so pleasant only because you, the Director of Development, gave me and my students personal tours of the Theatre, Ganz Hall, and the many spaces in the building that few others could ever access. Your historical knowledge of the building and its adaptive reuse over the years was unparalleld. When Shrikant and I got married during my second summer at Roosevelt, you and Kitty welcomed us into your home, where we found a home closer to home. Since then, many visits and shared experiences with you and Kitty, and your vivid year-end letters over 40 years brought David, Olga and Nicholas into our circle. We will miss your warm and wonderful personality. Honoring you, Rita and ShrikantRita Gorawara-Bhat & Shrikant Bhat

Dad: growing up, you told us about coming home between your two tours in Vietnam and how you were spit on at the San Francisco airport while in uniform. Today I witnessed Vietnam Vets exit their flights to the sounds of waving flags, high fives, THANK YOUS and roaring applause. I was moved to tears. I took a photo with some veterans and told them this and their response was, “Sweetheart, we don’t spit, we kiss.” Two our of three of them began to cry. As I cried in a corner afterwards (yes I like to cry!), a lady approached me and asked me if I was ok. I asked her if she was Vietnamese, she said yes. I told her why I was crying and said thank you to her in Vietnamese, the only word I know in her language. I thought about you, my uncles Jerry and David, and the Vietnamese people. I thought about your airport story, contrasted it with this airport story. Small & insipiring steps toward peace and understanding.Lorena

I follow a famous father His honor is mine to wear He gave me a name that was free from shame A name he was proud to bear He lived in the morning sunlight And marched in the ranks of right He was always true to the best he knew And the shield that he wore was bright I follow a famous father And never a day goes by But I feel that he looks down to me To carry his standard high He stood to the sternest trials As only a brave man can Though the way be long I must never wrong The name of so good a man I follow a famous father Not known to the printed page Nor written down in the world’s renown As a prince of his little age But never a stain attached to him And never he stooped to shame He was bold and brave and to me he gave The pride of an honest name I follow a famous father And him I must keep inmind Though his form isgone I must carry on Thename that heleft behind It wasmine ofthe day hegave it It shownas a monarchs crown And as fairto see as itcame to me It must be when I pass it downSteven W. Williamson Jr., Joseph
In honor of my Grandfather who was a WW2 Navy Vet. He served his country from 1942-1945. His ship, The USS Skylark AM-63 sank in the Pacific and he lived to tell about it. He was a first class individual who treated everyone with dignity and respect. The world was lucky to have him for 97 years. May he always be remembered as the giving and kind soul he was.
