Bate, Arthur Harold
In honor of Arthur "Harry" Bate who served as a US Marine during WWII as a Flight Commander in China. Post war, he benefited many fallen troops by facilitating their return to home soil and cross country flights by inaugurating with American Airlines the connections and setup to make the transport accessible and honorable to the departed soldier. His attention to details in transport served to both benefit and bless the families of the fallen. This gift is in honor of him and in memory of how he served many who gave the ultimate price. Uncle Harry was my ’favorite uncle’, and with his love for and connection to airlines (decades as a VP with American Airlines), he helped facilitate in me a love for airplanes and flying. Uncle Harry taught us a lot through the years and gave my brothers and I our first ’ground school’ day in flying taking us ’aboard’ a Piper for ’instruction’. He welcomed us aboard many ’planes’ through the years with a special photo opp in a 707 cockpit.Casey and Joy Crockett - blessed family

Genial, helpful to everyone, Howard Bennett rarely spoke of his time in the military until late in his life. Family and friends were delighted but not really surprised to learn that Howard was a genuine war hero. His Honor Flight, which he made with his son, was enormously meaningful to him.a friend of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren
Milton (Bud) Besch was a WWII Navy veteran who enlisted at age 16. Both his tall stature and having been birthed at home with no official birth certificate at that time helped him appear older. While he spoke little of his war time experience, he instilled in his children a love of county and the importance of being a good and brave citizen. All of his brothers and many of his children and grandchildren are veterans, both males and females. Bud worked many years in the airline industry. He supported many veteran organizations during his life. Bud was called to his heavenly home in 2014. On this fifth anniversary of our loving father’s passing, we are grateful to show our appreciation by supporting other veterans through Honor Flight.Your Eternally Grateful Family

My mother traveled to Washington, D.C. with her Guardian, Linda Buell, in the fall of 2016. The experience was a highlight of her life, a life full of highlights. Linda remained in close contact with her, visiting her often for chats and sometimes a meal, even though she worked and lived over an hour away when traffic cooperated and longer when it didn’t. Meeting retired General Wilma Vaught and getting a personal tour of the Women’s Memorial was especially meaningful as was the ceremony of placing a wreath on the tombs of the Unknown soldiers in Arlington National Cemetery. Thank you for conceiving of this program and congratulations for so successfully honoring the men and women who selflessly served our country. Cynthia, a WWII Army Nurse Corps veteran, died just short of her 99th birthday.Patty Biasca, daughter

Your honor and integrity served us all well. For 31 years, you served in the U.S.Air Force as a command pilot and squadron commander. You went from a draftee airplane mechanic in WWII with only a high school education, to qualifying as a pilot and serving as a pilot instructor during WWII in the B24; to serving during Korea as a command pilot with the B29 and B36; to serving during the Cold War as a command pilot with the B52; to serving in Vietnam in the command section flying over southeast Asia. I remember being so proud and feeling such happiness! It was only later when I was older that I began to understand the sacrifices you and Mom both made and the terror and awful experiences you must have endured in Viet Nam. Grady, Jr., John Edward
My father, John Edward Grady Jr, died on February 26, 2010; my donation is in tribute to this remarkable person. Dad was born in Boston, MA, on June 15, 1935; he grew up in Milton, MA and graduated from Harvard College (1956). He immediately turned to serve his country in the United States Navy, serving as in the Combat Information Center as Electronics Officer in the Sixth (Mediterranean) and Second (Atlantic) Fleets. My father won commendation for performance of duty aboard ship, and that ship won the award for "Best Ship" in an eight-ship squadron; he held an honorable discharge upon completion of his service. After graduating from Harvard Business School in 1965, he was offered, in 1970, an Assistant Secretary in the President Richard Nixon administration; he purportedly declined only when he understood the position would take him from his children too much. My father was a man of courage, consistency, honor, and integrity -- and I miss him every day, still, horribly.India, Harlan, and Douglas A. Grady

Hasslinger, Jack Lyons
Jack Lyons Hasslinger was a faithful husband and devoted father, grandfather and great grandfather. He enjoyed playing golf and tennis, watching baseball, especially the Arizona Diamondbacks and being as intelligent as he was, watching Jeopardy and answering all the questions; he also found great joy singing baritone with his church choir. Jack joined the Army Air Corps in January 1943, during World War II and landed in Normandy; he proudly served his country and was honorably discharged in December 1945 at the rank of Corporal. In 1965, he met the love of his life, Beverly Mae Juhl in California at a Parents without Partners event and the two were married in January of 1966. In spring of 2018, Jack received the opportunity of going on the Honor Flight, which was a life changing experience for him. I would like to send a tribute to my dad August Wayne Kanenbley who served during Vietnam. I’m so proud of my dad and would like to thank him for his service. Serving is never easy but what is given is truly admired and something I certainly don’t take lightly. I would also like to give a tribute to this organization that recognizes these Veteran’s and continue to support these programs such as the honor flights. It’s truly touching and I know so appreciated, which is why my husband and I are donating this money. Lastly, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the Veteran’s for their service. Thank you, Cindy ChanceyCraig & Cindy Chancey

Dad: growing up, you told us about coming home between your two tours in Vietnam and how you were spit on at the San Francisco airport while in uniform. Today I witnessed Vietnam Vets exit their flights to the sounds of waving flags, high fives, THANK YOUS and roaring applause. I was moved to tears. I took a photo with some veterans and told them this and their response was, “Sweetheart, we don’t spit, we kiss.” Two our of three of them began to cry. As I cried in a corner afterwards (yes I like to cry!), a lady approached me and asked me if I was ok. I asked her if she was Vietnamese, she said yes. I told her why I was crying and said thank you to her in Vietnamese, the only word I know in her language. I thought about you, my uncles Jerry and David, and the Vietnamese people. I thought about your airport story, contrasted it with this airport story. Small & insipiring steps toward peace and understanding.Lorena
